File # Rising Temperatures

Upper Fraser Valley RCMP is urging the public to be cautious over the coming days as daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to rise in the Fraser Valley.

Fraser Health advises that planning is key to making sure you are ready for a heat event. If you are able, please make sure you have some of the following:

We encourage people to have a plan should you need to leave your home due to the heat. This may include planning to stay with family or a friend, or identifying air-conditioned locations to go to such as community centres, cooling centres, libraries or malls during regular operating hours.

The City of Chilliwack has opened the following temporary locations to serve as Cooling Centres:

Location: Evergreen Hall - 9291 Corbould Street (Slesse Room)
Date: Monday, July 25 – Friday, July 28, 2022*
Time: 8 am – 8 pm

Location: Sardis Sports Complex - 5725 Tyson Road (Lobby of Sheet #3)
Date: Monday, July 25, 2022
Time: 8 am – 4 pm
Date: Tuesday, July 26 – Friday, July 28, 2022*
Time: 8 am – 8 pm

Please monitor yourself for signs of heat-related illness and check in on any vulnerable family members or neighbour’s who live alone or who may be at a higher risk of heat-related illness, said Corporal Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the UFVRD RCMP. We also want to remind everyone that children and pets should never be left in vehicles. Animals in distress can be reported to police or the SPCA Provincial Call Centre at 1-855-622-7722.

Tune in to weather forecasts and heat alerts for the most up-to-date information as weather can change quickly.
