File # 2024-7977/7995

Two traffic investigations in Kamloops resulted in weapons, body armour, and illegal drug seizures.

On Tuesday March 19, 2024, around 4 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was making patrols on Victoria Street, when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a burnt headlight. Further investigation revealed the driver was prohibited. As police were arresting the driver, a weapon was observed. A further search revealed two firearms, paraphernalia conducive with drug trafficking, and illegal drugs.

Kamloops police officers continue to be proactive in the enforcement of illegal drug trafficking and weapons offences associated with violent offenders, said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Officer in Charge. These enforcement strategies continue to remove firearms, weapons, and potentially lethal substances from the community, and their successes are a testament to the officers who do this every shift.

Two of the three people in the vehicle located on Victoria Street were arrested and released on an Undertaking with a court date, one of which was for prohibited driving. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the ongoing investigation. A third person was released without process.

Across town earlier in the night, March 18, members of the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment were also investigating a traffic offence that ended up evolving into a trespassing investigation and led officers to a loaded handgun and body-armour. That investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information that may be related to either of these incidents is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
