Vehicle impounded following suspected street racing

On Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 2:00 am BC Highway Patrol in Fort St. John was on patrol along 100th Ave in Fort St. John when two pickup trucks appeared to be engaged in a street race. Both vehicles were travelling at a very high rate of speed along 100th Ave.

Both vehicles turned onto 98th, where one of the vehicles, a pickup truck, fail to stop at a stop sign and crossed into the opposing lane of travel to overtake the other vehicle. Police safely stopped the pickup truck on 98th Street.

The driver, a 17-year-old with a Class 7 driver’s license, had been reported to the Fort St. John detachment multiple times for alleged erratic driving in recent months.

The driver was issued multiple violation tickets, and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days for street racing. It is possible that his driver’s license could be cancelled and a driving prohibition imposed.

The young man’s decision to race down city streets was dangerous, unacceptable and could have ended much worse said Cpl Wyatt Wright, BCHP Fort St John.

The BC Highway Patrol encourages all new driver’s to responsibly enjoy the privilege of operating their vehicles, and seek out designated venues for racing should they wish to do so.
